About Restons Solicitors
Restons Solicitors Limited, company number 05584055, is a law firm at Centre Park in Warrington. It is regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA number 425555), not the FCA, and the FCA register lists it as an exempt professional firm. Since March 2026 it has been owned by Restons Holdings Limited, according to Companies House.
Restons says it acts for lenders and debt purchasers to recover debts, and that it does not buy debts itself. Its clients appoint it when their own attempts to get in touch have not worked. It does not name its clients on its website, so your letter should name the creditor.
A letter from Restons is usually a Letter of Claim, the formal step before a court claim. You have 30 days to reply. If you ignore it, Restons says legal proceedings may be issued without further notice, so reply in writing to dispute the debt, ask for documents or offer a plan.

What a Restons Solicitors Letter Typically Looks Like
- A Letter of Claim under the Pre-Action Protocol for Debt Claims, naming the creditor you owe.
- A response pack with FAQs, a statement of account, a financial statement, an information sheet and a reply form.
- A warning that if you do not reply, legal proceedings may be issued without further notice and fees and costs added.
- Phone calls from 01925 426 100, the number Restons gives on its own website, and a portal at my.restons.co.uk to pay or dispute.
- If the debt is not resolved, a county court claim form, and if that is ignored, a request for a county court judgment in default.
Your Rights
Pre-Action Protocol for Debt Claims
Before suing an individual, a creditor should send a Letter of Claim with an information sheet, a reply form and a financial statement. You have 30 days from the date at the top of the letter to reply.
Consumer Credit Act 1974 (sections 77 and 78)
For credit agreements, you can ask for a copy of the agreement under section 77 (fixed-sum credit) or section 78 (running-account credit). While it is not provided, the agreement cannot be enforced.
Limitation Act 1980 (section 5)
Most consumer debts in England and Wales become statute-barred six years after your last payment or last written acknowledgement. A court claim on a statute-barred debt can be defended on that basis.
Notice of assignment
When a debt is sold, you must be told in writing for the buyer to sue in its own name (section 136 of the Law of Property Act 1925). You can ask for a copy of the notice of assignment.
Complaints
Write to the Complaints Department at Restons, Trinity Chambers, 800 Mandarin Court, Centre Park, Warrington, WA1 1GG, quoting your reference. Restons sends a final response within 8 weeks. Concerns about a solicitor's conduct can be reported to the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
Common Restons Solicitors Scenarios
A Letter of Claim from Restons
You have 30 days from the date at the top of the letter to reply using the reply form. You can dispute the debt, ask for documents, ask for time to get debt advice or offer a payment plan. Restons says it aims to respond to payment proposals within five working days.
A debt you do not recognise
Say so on the reply form and in writing, and ask for the credit agreement, the notice of assignment if the debt was sold, and a statement of account. The creditor should not start court action until at least 30 days after it receives your reply form.
A county court claim form
A claim form is a court document, not a letter. You normally have 14 days from service to respond, and filing an acknowledgment of service gives you 28 days from service to file a defence. If you ignore it, Restons says it will ask for judgment in default.
A county court judgment
A judgment stays on your credit file for six years. If you pay it in full within one month, it can be removed from the register. If you cannot pay, you can ask the court to change the payment terms.
A debt that may be statute-barred
Under section 5 of the Limitation Act 1980, most consumer debts in England and Wales become statute-barred six years after your last payment or last written acknowledgement. If that applies, say so on the reply form.
You are struggling to pay
Use the reply form to say you are getting debt advice and ask for more time. A debt adviser can apply for Breathing Space under the Debt Respite Scheme, which pauses most creditor action and interest for 60 days.
