Which DVLA Address to Use

DVLA is in Swansea, and each team has its own postcode. SA6 7JL is for licence enquiries and complaints. SA99 1AR is for vehicle, tax and SORN enquiries. SA99 1TU is for medical enquiries.

If DVLA has written to you about a case, use the address on its letter.

When DVLA Needs a Form

Many DVLA services use a form rather than a letter, sent to the address printed on the form or given on GOV.UK. These include the D1 or D2 for licence applications, renewals, replacements and name changes, the D46P to renew at 70, the D741 to change the address on a photocard licence, the V62 for a new or replacement log book, the V890 to make a SORN by post, and the sections of your V5C log book to change your vehicle's details.

We print and post letters, so we cannot send these forms, your licence, your log book or a fee for you. Post those yourself.

How Long DVLA Takes

DVLA asks you to allow 4 weeks for documents after a postal application, and not to call during that time. Medical cases take longer, and DVLA says it will be in touch. For complaints, DVLA aims to send a full reply within 10 working days.

Complaining About DVLA

Start with the complaints team. If you are unhappy with the reply, you can ask for your complaint to go to the Head of Complaints, who also aims to reply within 10 working days. After that you can ask DVLA to refer you to an Independent Complaints Assessor, and then ask your MP to refer your complaint to the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman.

Complaints about how DVLA handles your personal data go to the Information Commissioner's Office.
